Searching for a Simple Notebook
January 9th, 2012When you are on the look out for a simple notebook the most important thing is possibly to ask yourself; what is my needs and what do I really mean by simple. Would an operational system outside of Windows be somethings that I consider simple? Am I content with the fact that simple could mean limited hard drive space? Is it first and foremost a cost issue or am I predominately looking for something smaller in the size department, or maybe something basic and functional that isn’t cluttered up with unnecessary add on programs.
For the ranking of the computers on this page we have focused on and taken the following into account when doing our notebook testing:
- Over All Quality
- Size (dimension and weight)
- Price
- Simplicity (which is what most – but far from all – want from this type of computer)
Our slightly controversial choice is the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook, we feel that it combines the simplicity of a tablet with many the advantages of a “normal” notebook. We are obviously not alone since it’s a very popular product with many satisfied customers. However, it does have the chrome operational system and if you for some reason do not feel comfortable with that, or if one of your requirements would be a full size screen, then the HP G6-1B60US Notebook would be our best recommendation of those reviewed. The Dell Latitude D630 finished last in our notebook testing, it is a refurbished machine, and although it is not terrible in any way; it simply can’t hold it’s own against several of the new and still more inexpensive models. The one we tried out also had remarkably bad speakers.
